“What the heck does that mean, Rodney? ‘I’m saying what I’m saying’. What you’re saying makes absolutely no sense.” McKenna set down her petrie dish and turned to face the other scientist.

He rolled his eyes, sighed in exasperation and said, “Look… what I’m saying is… you keep messing with these things which you know nothing about and sooner or later someone is going to be hurt. And honestly, I’d prefer if it wasn’t me thankyouverymuch.”

“Oh now wait just a minute there, buster.” She stood and crossed the room, now standing toe-to-toe with him. “You, of all people, are standing there and telling me that *my* experiments are going to get people killed when *you* slapped a shielding device on yourself without knowing *any* specifics about how it functioned or how to even take it off!”

Their arguments were becoming legendary in the short time they’d been on Atlantis. Even Dr. Weir was beginning to see them for what they really were… foreplay.

“I… Well… That’s not the point, Doctor.”

“Then what is the point, Doctor?”

“The point, if you insist upon knowing it, is that I seem to find you extremely attractive. I mean, I don’t know what it is… strong women who try to act smarter than they really are.”

“Rodney,” McKenna said softly, “I’m beginning to see why you only left a cat behind.” With that, she turned and walked back to her stool.

“Oh yeah,” he said softly to himself. “She likes me.”

He didn’t see her smile.
