Disclaimer: I do not own Lord of the Rings. JRR Tolkien envisioned Legolas and brought him to life. The likeness in the dustjacket was fashioned by New Line Cinema and is the vision of Peter Jackson. I also do not own the concept of Highlander. That honor belongs to Panzer and Davis. I do, however, own Grace Hammond. She is my vision, even if her likeness is Charlize Theron.
Author’s Notes: This was written as a bit of a challenge and sort of sprung from there. This is the first story in the ‘Beauty and the Elf’ series.
The Bath
by Christina A.
The elf stared down at the tub incredulously. “There’s something wrong with this, Grace,” he said to his Immortal friend.
“Wrong?” she questioned, emptying the last bottle. “There is absolutely nothing ‘wrong’ with a champagne bath.”
“In your opinion,” he said softly.
“It’s the only one that counts at the moment.” She handed him a leather strap of material and continued, “Pull your hair up with this. Believe me, champagne is wonderful for the skin. And don’t raise your brow at me. You’ve never tried this before. Now, get in.”
Irregardless of her order, he lifted a brow and questioned, “In that? Gracie, this just isn’t…”
“Legolas, for a man who is supposed to be one of the bravest in the world, you sure can be a baby.” She stood there with her hands on her hips and dared him to retort.
He didn’t. With a sigh of resignation, he removed the robe, tied up his hair, and stepped into the tub.
Smiling in satisfaction, Grace sat beside the tub and offered him a washcloth. “See? You didn’t melt. And you’re still alive.”
Closing his eyes, he rested his head on the back of the tub and didn’t resist the smile that spread on his face. “When you’re right, you’re right. *This* gift is perfect.”
She caught the emphasis on the word ‘this’ and harrumphed. “Are you implying that I have given less than perfect gifts in the past?”
He opened one eye and had to fight back a laugh. “Yesterday,” he reminded. “What exactly do you call a quiver full of rubber arrows?”
“Funny?” she laughed. “I call it funny. The look on your face was well worth it. And I made it up to you, so what are you complaining about?”
His eye closed and he relaxed again. “Nothing,” he sighed, the scent of the champagne bath filled his nostrils as she began to bathe him. “Absolutely nothing.”
