Kismet Part One
by Christina A and M Edison

Aliana Noelle Edison sat by the small pool, letting her hand run gently
through the water. They were cooking out today. One of the Professor’s
best ideas. The children were playing basketball, volleyball, and even
soccer.  The other teachers were acting as referees or judges. Storm
was causing a rain shower for water games.

Lana, as everyone called her, was happily watching. One of her students
was sharing a poem with her that he’d written, his soft reading voice
filtering through to her as she tried desperately *not* to watch the
love of her life with the love of his. Scott loved Jean. Lana loved
Scott. Lana and Jean were good friends. None of that had changed for
almost fifteen years.

It wasn’t about to change, ever. Sometimes, it hurt Lana to think about
it.  Most times, she just accepted it.

Bobby’s poem rang through her mind. He had a kind heart and a good
soul. She had to focus on what he was saying, or she’d get bogged down
in her angst again. It didn’t do her any good.

Sitting down next to her, Scott Summers nudged her shoulder gently with
his own, his gaze on the kids rampaging across the lawn before him. It
was the way he liked things. Just sitting with a friend was the most
relaxing thing he could do, especially when that friend was Lana. It
just felt better when they relaxed together.

Subconsciously, she nudged back. It was their hello. She immediately
quelled the race of her heart when he touched her. Her thoughts had
been too close to those forbidden desires to actually look at him right
now.

Bobby finished his poem and looked at his teacher expectantly.

“It’s the best you’ve written so far, Bobby. That one came from your
heart.”

“Cool,” he said, jumping up and running after his friends.

She smiled as he ran off. “He’s definitely got the heart of a poet.”
Finally looking at Scott and getting herself under control emotionally,
she smiled. “And how are you this afternoon? Kids running you ragged?”

Scott grinned at her. “When don’t they? I swear, we were never that
wild when we were their age.” He heaved a mock sigh. “At least you’re
here so I can hide and find some peace.” His smile gentled. “Seems
you’re the best one around here in that respect.”

“Scott, you are so full of bull sometimes. *We* are the reason
Professor Xavier lost his hair. You and I. Not Ororo or Jean or the
others. You and I. Like the time I shifted into you and tried to take
your physics exam for you. Remember that?” She laughed lightly at the
memory. Her brows furrowed at his last comment though. Why was she the
best? Jean should be the best.  *She* was the one he loved. The one he
cuddled with every night. Scrunching her nose, she continued with the
smile. “Me, peaceful? Don’t know that I’ve ever been called that.”

“You should be.” Her friend replied, touching the tip of her nose.
“You’re the one around here everyone turns to for it. Me especially.”

She smiled brightly. Softly, she said, “You’re my best friend, I hope
you turn to me for it.” She took that hand and squeezed it before
letting go and returning to rest her cheek on her own hand. She loved
sitting with her knees to her chest and resting her head this way. It
was comfortable.

He watched her for a moment before asking. “Having a good day? You seem
kind of… quiet. More reflective than usual.”

She shrugged. “I feel fine… like I usually do. I’ve just been
watching everyone and listening to Bobby’s poem.” She had always said
there wasn’t anything she couldn’t tell him. But she couldn’t tell him
how she really felt for him. It wouldn’t be fair and would more than
likely end the friendship. She wouldn’t risk that for the world. “Since
Marie’s arrival, he’s gotten more in touch with the romantic side of
himself. It’s a nice change for him.”

“Young love, hmm?” Scott grinned. “Logan’s gonna love that. He’s
protective enough of her as is.”

She smiled.  For a while, she’d wondered if she could pursue something
with Logan, but his emotions for Jean were obvious.  It confused her
more than she could even admit to herself.  “Sometimes, it’s the young
love that lasts a lifetime.”  She chuckled.  “But could you imagine
having to ask *him* if you can date his daughter?”  She mock shuddered.
“Scary.”

He laughed. “Scary doesn’t begin to cover it. Imagine his reaction if
they broke up and Rogue came home crying? He’d carve the kid up for
spare parts.”

“Oh yeah.  Adamantium isn’t resistant to extreme cold, isn’t it?”  She
laughed along, referring to Bobby’s mutation.  “Though if he’s not
here, there’s not much he can do about it.”

The other mutant nodded. “But you know him. The guy has that annoying
habit of turning up just when you think he’s gone for good.” He smiled
wryly. “Or at least he does with me.”

“He turns up when you *hope* he’s gone for good!  Admit it!”  She
reached out and punched him ever so lightly on the shoulder.  “There’s
no love lost between the two of you.”

Scott caught her hand, pinning her against him as he tickled her. “None
in the least. He irritates the hell out of me… never mind how you all
follow him around like puppies.” He mock-groused. “What’s he got that I
don’t?”

She smacked at his hands.  “Cut it out! And there’s nothing!  Believe
me!!  He’s far to ‘dark and mysterious’ for my taste.”  She poked at
his ribs in retaliation.  “But my female students ‘love’ him.”

“You do too.” Scott pressed, not quite sure why the idea bothered him
so much. “You always got this ‘look’ in your eyes when he walked into
the room.  Same one ‘Ro and Jean get. Like all he’s gotta do is growl
or whatever and you’ll melt away.”

“Scott Summers, I do not!!!”  She had before… at first!  That was
true.  But things had changed for her… like her heart knew where it
belonged all along.  “I prefer my men more stable.  Someone I can count
on to be there for me when I need him and not merely when it’s
convenient.”  She pushed at him, and poked him again.  “And I do *not*
bat my lashes.”

“Sure you do.” He grinned. “Like this.” He demonstrated, forgetting she
couldn’t see his eyes. “But it’s cute so don’t worry about it.”

Of course, she couldn’t actually see his lashes, but his eyebrows were
doing a darn funny impression.  Her hand flattened onto his face and
she pushed him backwards.  “You’re such a brat.”  Her heart swelled
with emotion despite her not wanting it to.  “The only kind of
attraction I could have for someone like him is purely physical.  He’s
not the one for me.  You’re just going to have to trust me on that
account, Cyclops.”  She pushed him again for emphasis.

Grinning up at her, he suddenly was struck by a question that passed
his lips before he had a chance to stop it. “And who is the one for
you?”  Realizing how that sounded, he amended it. “The type I mean.”

Panic soared through her.  Her immediate response was ‘you’.  But she
bit her lip hard and did her best to make it look like she was
thinking.  “I don’t know,” she lied.  Then truthfully, she said,
“Someone who can make me laugh, but hold me when I cry.  He’d have to
understand my fears, but not let me wallow in them.  He has to like
staying up all night and watching old movies, or at least understanding
when you and I do it.”  To keep it from getting too serious, she smiled
and said, “Most importantly, he has to be able to drive.  I can’t.”

“Well, that can be fixed.” He replied with a grin. “If I can teach
Jean, I can teach anybody.” Inwardly, he found himself thinking about
the description she’d given and wondering why he suddenly wondered if
he’d match up?

*-*-*

It was late, he knew it, too late to be waking her up but he just
needed to talk to someone and the only person he could think who would
understand was Lana. He’d been smart about it though, he’d brought
snacks to bribe her with so, armed with those, he knocked on her door.

Rolling over, she looked at the clock.  It was 1 a.m.  Whoever was
knocking on her door at this hour must need to talk.  Getting out of
bed, she put on her robe and padded softly over to the door.  The sight
that greeted her caused her to pause.  Immediately, she stood to the
side to let him in. “You ok?” she asked.

“Not exactly.” Scott sighed out, walking in. “Jean and I… we’ve been
talking about this for a while… We uh…” He shrugged. “We’re
history.”

“Oh Scottie,” she immediately wrapped her arm around his shoulder and
led him to the loveseat.  Taking the snacks from him, she sat them both
down and simply hugged him.  He’d talk to her sooner or later, right
now; she just wanted to comfort him.  “I’m so sorry.”

“It’s been coming a while.” He sighed out. “We’ve been more like
friends who occasionally sleep together than anything else lately. I
guess we just didn’t want to see it until now.”

Lana had to secretly admit to thinking that herself.  She released him
and sat back, putting her arm around his shoulder.  “Doesn’t make it
any easier.”

“In some ways it does.” Scott disagreed. “But it’ll still be a big
adjustment.”

She sighed and pressed her forehead to his.  “It will be.  But I’m here
for you.  If you want to talk, or even if you don’t.  It’s what friends
are for.”  She hadn’t stopped to think how close her lips were in
proximity to his.  She felt her breath catch and slowly pulled away.
“You need me, I’m here for you.”

“Ok, I need you.” He replied with a wry grin. “I really do Lana. This
is just… We were together so long. I almost don’t know what to do
next.”

She pressed a soft kiss to his forehead before settling next to him and
letting his head fall onto her shoulder.  “I know it’s no comparison,
but someone very important gave me some advice when David left.”
Instinctively, her hand was running through his hair.  It was purely
comforting… for both of them.  David had been her first boyfriend.
He left for numerous reasons, the main one, he knew, would be that he’d
never fully have her heart.  So, she’d turned to Scott for support,
much as he was doing now.  “You breathe in and breathe out.  You find
your center, and go on.  She’s not the last woman who’s going to love
you, Scottie.  Believe me.  She’s not.  And she’s not the last woman
you’re going to love.”

Scott sighed heavily. “I know. I really do know but…” He shrugged.
“I’m starting to wonder if we ever did love each other, like *that*. I
can’t help but question it. It was just so easy to end it, easier than
it should have been. And now I have to wonder.”

Lana shook her head.  “It was real, Scott.  Don’t doubt that.  The way
you looked at her.  The real joy you had when you barged into my room
that day to tell me she was going to the out with you.”  It was her
turn to sigh.  “The way you looked at each other when you thought no
one was looking.  No matter how it ended, Scottie, at one time, it was
real.  But people change.  Sometimes when they change, it just leads
them on different paths.”

“Different paths.” He repeated quietly, staring dully at the floor.
“Different paths indeed. You know, this may sound strange, but Logan’s
coming to the school…did us a favor. I think, for the first time, we
both got jarred out of the ‘rut’ we were in.” He didn’t say that he’d
been wondering for a while before that. He didn’t say it because his
wonderings involved the woman next to him. He’d always thought they
were great friends but there were times when he wondered if they
wouldn’t be great at more. “We started wondering if we were right.” And
seeing Jean wondering about Logan… that wondering became more
frequent.

Her eyes closed as he spoke.  A thousand things ran through her mind,
but what she finally said was, “Why didn’t you ever ask her to marry
you?”

Why didn’t he indeed? “I… I honestly don’t know. We were too
comfortable I guess. Didn’t want to change the way we were living. I
thought I loved her but we just… we just never thought about it.”

Her head finally rested on top of his and her arm moved to his
shoulder.  “Maybe, just maybe, you didn’t because it wasn’t meant to
be.  You loved her.  She loved you.  And in fact, you’ll love each
other forever. Everything happens for a reason.  I believe that with
all my heart.”

“She’s a friend.” Scott affirmed. “I love her like a friend. But that’s
it. I think… I know, that’s what it’s been for a while.”

“Nothing wrong with being friends.”  She shrugged.

“Sometimes,” he replied quietly. “Sometimes there is.”

“Sometimes there’s something wrong with being friends?” she asked, not
sure where he was going with that.  They were friends.  She was closer
to him than to anyone in the world.  What could be wrong with that?

“Sometimes there’s something wrong with being *just* friends.” He
stressed.  “Sometimes there should be more.”

Her breath caught and held.  No way with them being this close
physically could he not notice it.  “When it’s all you’ve got though,
it’s what you hold onto with all your might.  Don’t let it go for
anything.”  She better get herself under control.  Last thing she
wanted was to push him away.  He didn’t need to deal with her and her
emotions right now.  She needed to be there for him.

“But no one should have to settle.” Scott replied insistently. “It’s
not right. It’s a risk but risks are how the best things happen.”

“Or the worst,” she whispered softly.  Clearing her throat, she said a
bit more loudly, “It will all work itself out.  I believe that.”  She
had to believe that.  She’d believed it for over ten years.

“You believing is enough.” He decided finally. “Enough for me at
least.”

She couldn’t help but wonder what was going through his mind at the
moment. She knew what she was feeling.  It was overwhelming her at the
moment. “I can believe enough for the both of us,” she said at last.

He touched her hand, held it, smiling gratefully at her. “You’re the
best, Lana. Absolutely the best.” Leaning over, he kissed her cheek.
“Thanks for being you.”

Her free hand touched his cheek.  She wouldn’t have wished this on him
for anything in the world.  She was content, most days, with being his
friend.  She would have gladly taken that.  Realizing, she was sitting
and staring, she moved her hand from his face and pulled away just a
bit.  “I should be thanking you.”

“Why?” he asked with a bit of a laugh, unsure as to where she was going
with this. “For waking you up with a sob story and questions or because
I brought the snacks to make up for it?”

She managed a small laugh.  “Snacks are always a plus.”  She shook her
head.  How to say this without giving away everything she was feeling?

She wasn’t sure.  Her free hand began to toy with her robe.  “I meant,
thank you for being my friend.  And as far as the sob story, I would
have been hurt had you knocked on anyone else’s door besides mine.”

Scott smiled. “Which is precisely why it’s me that needs to be doing
the thanking. In all the years we’ve known each other you’ve listened
to more of my sob stories than necessary. Sob stories, rants, and corny
jokes… the works. You’ve listened without hesitation. It’s a rare
kind of friend that can do that.”

Looking up at him, she returned the smile.  “Oh and like you haven’t
put up with anything from me?  You’ve encouraged me to do things that
terrified me.  I would never leave these school grounds if it weren’t
for you.  And I’ve done more than my fair share of crying on your
shoulder.”  She paused for a heartbeat before continuing, “And besides,
I *like* the corny jokes.  We have the same sense of humor.  It’s what
makes us the best of friends.  Sure we know each other’s flaws.  But it
doesn’t change the fact that we’re friends.  Just makes it even
better.”

His smile turned wry. “Talking like that… maybe I should’ve fallen
for you first.”

She looked at him for a long moment, trying desperately with everything
that was in her NOT to cry.  Maybe he should have.  It was definitely
what she’d wanted for so long.  It was the reason David left her and
the reason she never let herself fall for another man.  They all failed
in comparison to the one sitting right in front of her.  When she
finally did speak, it was a very soft reply.  “Just wasn’t meant to
happen that way.”  She didn’t know if he heard or not, but her robe was
suddenly *very* interesting to her.

“Guess it wasn’t.” He agreed, equally quiet. “But that doesn’t mean I
have to like it.”

Still not able to look up at him, she cleared her throat again saying,
“Scott…”  What was she going to say?  ‘I love you.  I have for years.

We can make it work now.’  She couldn’t do that to him.  The man had
just lost his first love.  Instead of saying all that, she said, “I
know what you mean.”

He smiled faintly at her. “You always do, Lanie. You always do.”

Her hand went instinctively to his face her smile got a bit wider.  She
wasn’t sure what to say to that.  Instead, she went to their old
standby and said, “What do you say we grab an old movie and eat those
treats, huh?”

Scott’s expression was gratefulness personified. “I say you always did
have the best ideas.” Sleep just wasn’t an option for him. Not at the
moment. His mind had too many things going on within it, and they were
all headed in too many directions. A movie with Lana was his best
option.

“You choose the flick, and I’ll set these delectables out for us.”  She
had to move, her emotions were becoming far too charged to continue to
sit there holding him.  Retreating to the safe territory of food and
movies seemed to be the best course of action.  “The movies are on the
shelf next to the TV, just open the door on that armoire.”  She went to
get a throw blanket and spread it out on the bed.

He rummaged in the armoire for a few moments then emerged with both
Mummy movies. “How’s this look?” He held them up for her inspection.
“Action, your drool-worthy guys, a pretty girl, should cover the
basics?”

Lana looked up from setting the bowl of cheesies on the bed.
“Perfect.” She waggled her brows.  “It doesn’t get much better than
those.” She put some extra pillows on the bed so they’d have something
to lean on while they watched the movie.  “Look on that other shelf and
see if I still have any of those M&Ms left over.”

He grinned. “If you don’t, it’s the apocalypse. You always have M&Ms.”

She laughed and sat on her favorite side of the bed.  “Well, I sort of
attacked them the other night and no one’s gone into town so I couldn’t
bum a ride and get more.  But the peanut ones should still be there.”

“They are.” Scott affirmed, swinging around with the aforementioned
treat in hand and advancing on the bed. “Big bag too. Should keep us
going.” He sat next to her and grinned.

“Nothing but the best,” she handed him the remote control, took a
handful of cheesies and leaned back on the pillows.  “Just like you
brought Cheetos, I have M&Ms. I do believe we are a matched set if I
ever heard of one.”  It was an innocent statement, said with
lightheartedness, but it represented the core of what she felt.

The comment struck home, and Scott settled back next to her, feigning
an emotional control he didn’t have. This wasn’t supposed to be this
way. He wasn’t supposed to be thinking about her like this. She was
Lana. His friend since practically the first day he’d arrived at the
school. “We’re the bookends.” He joked, wondering if his voice sounded
as strained to her as it did to him.

She nodded, offering him a cheesie.  The movie started and she let
herself relax, wondering what it would be like to have this EVERY
night.  “We are,” she agreed, “we are.”

Taking the cheesie, he popped an M&M into her mouth. “Of course, that
brings up the question… what are we bookends to?”

Chewing thoughtfully, she nudged him before swallowing and started
laughing. “Well, we have flamethrowers, freezers, molecular shifters.
Our children.  Each and every one.”  She thought for a moment and then
continued, “And frankly, there’s no one I’d rather be a bookend with.”
And there she’d finally voiced a very true part of herself.  It wasn’t
fair to do so, but she spoke before she’d thought of the consequences.
“Movie’s started,” she said quickly.

Settling an arm around her shoulders, he pointed out. “In case you fall
asleep… wouldn’t want you falling off the shelf.”

Getting comfortable, she rested her head on his shoulders and said,
“That is the one surety in my life.  That’d you’d never let me fall.”
Her arm went around his waist.  “And the same goes for you.”

“Understood ma’am.” He repeated obediently, stealing another cheesie.

She couldn’t help but laugh.  Watching a movie and munching was normal
for them… safe.  The emotions stirring within her were anything but.

She’d tucked them away, kept them hidden because it was an
impossibility.  And it was still an impossibility.  He saw her as a
friend.  But she could let herself dream.  She loved him enough to stay
his friend and dream of the impossible.

Being with her was an impossibility, which seemed to be, in Scott’s
mind at least, possible.  But how did he say so? And should he? So soon
on the heels of another relationship… was it a bad move? How could it
backfire? What could go wrong next?

Or what could go right?

They sat that way for a long time, watching and enjoying the movie.  It
was a comfortable silence for Lana.  The only sounds were occasional
chewing of food or a laugh from one of them.  At her last glance of the
clock, it was close to 3 a.m., so she wasn’t surprised when her eyes
started to drift closed.  She also wasn’t surprised to find herself
settling even more into the warmth beside her.  This was Scott, after
all.  Life could never be better than when she was with him.

He felt her relaxing. Felt her falling asleep. Part of him was
relieved. It gave him time to think. About the fact he’d come here
first, about the thoughts that had been sneaking into his mind for
quite some time. About all of it. This wasn’t supposed to be happening.
He wasn’t supposed to be falling in love with his best friend.
Especially not when he’d just called it quits with the woman who was,
by all accounts, supposed to be the love of his life.

He just wasn’t.

But…

For disclaimers, see part one.

Kismet Part Two
by M Edison and Christina A

*-*-*

Weeks later…

*-*-*

“Logan and Jean are sleeping together.”

The words were quietly spoken, in deference to the fact they were in
the library as were some others, and pitched for Lana’s ears alone.
Scott’s facial expression didn’t waver as he said the words, giving
absolutely no sign to anyone what he truly thought about the subject.

Lana set down the book she was reading and gazed at him.  His words
were emotionless, and only she would have noticed how much the fact of
Jean’s new romance bothered him.  It was written all over his face.
“I’d suspected as much,” she whispered in return.  Leaning toward him
so they could talk a bit more easily, she asked, “You want to go out in
the garden and talk about it?”

“We should.” He nodded. “Too many people in here that could overhear
us.”

Standing, she reached out for his hand.  It was a duality of emotions
for her.  His concern over the fact meant he hadn’t let go of Jean.
But it seemed Jean had moved on.  She had to face the truth; Scott
would always love Jean.  And Lana, though it wasn’t what she wanted,
would have to be satisfied with being his friend.  She’d always be
there for him.  She said nothing as they walked out.  But once they
were in the garden she asked,  “What did you find out about it?”

“Not much.” He replied. “He’s been staying in her room for about a week
and they’ve spent some time together when she’s not teaching.” He
sighed.  “Truthfully? I’m actually ok with this. Totally ok. And that’s
the part that I’m having trouble with.”

She looked at him a bit quizzically.  She deduced that he must have
just heard about it today, and that it had been going on a bit longer
than even she’d heard about.  His last statement seemed to shock her a
bit.  “Why are you having trouble with that?”

“Because it should matter more.” Scott explained. “Considering how long
we were together, I should feel more.”

Lana shook her head.  “I don’t think so.  You’ve said it all along, you
two were growing apart even before you verbally decided to go your
separate ways.  You’re moving on.  You’re still friends.  It matters,
sure.  But if it were occupying your thoughts completely, *I* would
worry about you.”  She was gabbing a lot, and wasn’t sure why.  She was
a bit nervous about the conversation.

“You always worry about me.” He countered with a smile, touching her
hand.  “It’s the one thing I know I can count on… you always being
there.”

“I can’t help but worry about you.  I think it’s ingrained in my DNA,”
she said with a chuckle.  Squeezing his hand, she turned serious as she
said, “And you’re right, I’m not going anywhere.  Not even the
strongest wind Ororo could create could pull me away.  I’m stubborn
like that.”

“So I’ve noticed.” Scott leaned in to kiss her cheek. “Thanks Lana. For
everything. You don’t know how good it is to still have you around and
in my corner.”

She could still feel his lips on her cheek, the heat of the touch going
right to her soul.  “I’m not going anywhere… ever.”

“I know.” He nodded. “You know the same is true of me, right? If you
need *anything* just ask me. Anything.” He repeated the word softly, as
if becoming aware of how close they were.

She swallowed hard.  The one thing she most wanted from him, she wasn’t
sure if he wanted to give to her.  She stopped their forward progress
and looked up at him.  “I know you’ll always be here.  Best friends are
like that.” Her voice had grown softer as well.

“They are.” He affirmed, sensing hesitance on her part and backing off.
“So remember that, got it?”

Her disappointment was very hard to mask.  All she could attribute it
to was that he would never think of her as more than just a buddy or a
pal.  Quelling a tear, she nodded.  “I’ll never forget it.”

Scott touched her cheek gently then nodded. “You’d better not. I’d
never forgive you if you thought you couldn’t come to me. No matter
what it’s about.”

Before she could stop herself, she let her eyes drift closed and
nodded.  “I know.”  Of course, she wasn’t the type of person who was
strong enough just to blurt out that she’d been in love with him since
the moment they’d met.  But anything else, she could easily tell him
that.

He hugged her. He couldn’t help it. Everything had been so confusing
lately. He didn’t know what was going on with whom. One moment he
thought Lana was trying to tell him something, the next she was backing
off and being a ‘friend’. He didn’t know what else to do so he hugged
her. It just felt right.

The move surprised her just a bit.  Here she’d thought he was putting
distance between them… keeping them just friends because it was
comfortable for him.  But when he hugged her, it took her only a moment
to wrap her arms around him and return the embrace.  She held him
tightly too, afraid that if he let go, he’d see the raw emotion in her
face.  And then what would happen?

What would happen indeed?

*-*-*

Lavender bubbles were the absolute best in the world.  The instructions
said one capful, but Lana never paid attention to that.  Half a bottle
later, she had a tub full of the aromatic bubbles.  Good music, hot
water, and candlelight.  It was almost perfect.

*-*-*

Scott couldn’t find Lana; he looked all over the school but couldn’t
find her. Someone said she’d gone to bed and though he didn’t want to
disturb her, he really needed to talk to her. So, when he opened the
door to her room, he was surprised when she wasn’t there.

Spotting the light on in her bathroom, he decided she must be brushing
her teeth and crossed the room to stick his head.

“Lana…” Catching sight of her, he promptly forgot what he wanted to
ask her about. Instead, he stared in shock.

She was ethereal.

The look of shock that crossed her face was instantaneous.  “Sc…
Scott,” she stammered.  There wasn’t much she could say… but what was
that look on his face?  Appreciation?  No, she had to be seeing that
wrong.

“I… uh…” He couldn’t remember how to speak. How to vocalize what he
was feeling. All he could feel was awe. “You…You’re…” He stared in
awe. He didn’t know what to do. What to say? Nothing seemed right.

Lana ran a hand through her hair.  He wasn’t leaving.  That had to mean
something, right?  She swallowed hard.  A well of courage that she
didn’t know she had sprung forth and she softly said, “Just say what’s
on your mind.  Remember, there’s nothing you can’t say to me.”

Her words seemed to trigger something in him and he instinctively
blurted, “You’re beautiful.”

She wasn’t sure what she expected.  That was a bit shocking though.
“Me? Beautiful?”  She laughed nervously and her hand went into her hair
again.  “I’m not the ‘beautiful’ type, Scottie.”

“You are beautiful.” He insisted in all seriousness and honesty.
“You’re breathtaking.”

She simply stared at him for the longest time.  This was her Scott.
Her best friend.  And he was standing in her bathroom, while she was
naked as the day she was born in the bathtub, and he was telling her
that *he* thought she was beautiful.  She’d dreamed of moments like
these but never thought they’d happen.  How could she be beautiful when
compared to Jean Grey?  Swallowing hard, all she could do was whisper
his name to say anything else would open up a floodgate of emotion that
would scare anyone.

At some point, he moved to kneel by the tub but he couldn’t honestly
tell you when that happened. All he knew was he was kneeling there and
he was touching her face. “Ethereal.” He repeated his earlier thought,
brushing a finger along her cheek. “Absolutely ethereal.”

The touch sent a visible shiver through her body.  She leaned into it.
There wasn’t going to be much of anything that could keep the walls
she’d built to contain her emotions up any longer.  If he kept this up,
she was literally going to become like the liquid in her tub.

“Lana…” He whispered quietly. “Lana… I should have said something
before.”

And that was all it took.  Tears streamed down her cheeks as years of
pent up love broke down the last of her barriers.  “It… it wasn’t
time,” she managed to say.

“It is now.” Scott replied, leaning forward and kissing her softly. “It
is now.”

She was shaking beyond belief now.  “Scottie,” she whispered.  A wet
hand came out of the sudsy water and rested on the side of his cheek.
“You have no idea how long…”  She stopped her sentence there.
Letting a thumb run across his cheek, she said, “Yes, it is now.”

“You’re shaking.” He realized, thinking she was cold. “Come on.”
Lifting her to her feet, he wrapped a towel about her slim form. Seeing
her standing before him, looking at him with those eyes, he found
himself kissing her again and this time, lingered.

Not thinking about the fact that she was wet and he wasn’t, she leaned
in to him and wrapped her arms around his neck.  When the kiss finally
ended, she admitted, “I am.  It happens when you realize your dream is
coming true.”

He smiled gently at her. “I’m an idiot not to have said something
sooner. A total idiot.”

“I should have said something years ago,” she teased lightly.  “It
wasn’t time.”

“Well it is now.” He repeated his earlier words. “And I’m going to make
it up to you.”

A hand went up into his hair and she ran her fingers through it as she
initiated a kiss before saying, “You already have.”

He tugged her closer, forgetting the towel. “And this is just the
beginning.”

She forgot the towel as well, but couldn’t help but tease, “So, what
movie are we watching tonight?”  She touched the end of his nose and
smiled brightly.  It was as if, finally given permission to touch him
anywhere she wanted, she couldn’t stop herself from touching him
constantly.  This was her Scottie… her best friend for well over a
decade and he was finally looking at her, not as Lanie the friend, but
as Lana, the woman.

“Well, if I’m right, it’s an adult one.” He grinned teasingly. “Very
beautiful star too.”

She couldn’t help but blush.  But what could be wrong when he was
holding her like this?  Nothing.  So though it was a bit surprising,
she wasn’t shocked when she said, “The male lead is simply gorgeous
too.”

His grin widened. “Even if he doesn’t have those ‘deep, penetrating
eyes’ and ‘rippling muscles’?”

“Muscles enough for this leading lady,” she went along with the
conversation.  “Enough to inspire long spans of oogling.”  Her voice
grew soft.  Kissing his lips softly, she murmured, “And the eyes are
expressive enough to make her turn into a puddle with the raise of an
eyebrow.”

“Even if you can’t see them?” He questioned ruefully. That had always
been the one thing about his mutation that had truly hurt. He couldn’t
look a woman he loved in the eyes. Not without killing her. And more
than anything, he wanted to look into Lana’s without sunglasses or a
visor in the way. But he couldn’t.

“Scott,” she hugged him tightly.  “My feelings are for you.  I don’t
need to see into your physical eyes to see into your soul.”  And once
she started talking, she couldn’t stop.  “I’ve never felt this much for
anyone… ever. The visor, it’s a part of you, and there’s nothing I
would change about you. Nothing.”

Scott tugged her closer, if that was possible, and kissed her deeply.
“God, you’re incredible.” He murmured into her ear, his lips brushing
against her skin. “Absolutely incredible.”

Her eyes welled with tears again and she held him tightly.  “I love
you,” she finally put voice to her heart’s deepest secret.  “I have
since the day I first came to this school.”  Now that she had him in
her arms, she was never going to let him go.  Never.  Jean was a fool,
to let this man walk away from her, but Lana would be forever grateful.
Her dream had become a reality.

Lifting her into his arms, he left the bathroom, returning to her
bedroom with her. “I’ve been in love with you for a long time.” He told
her seriously. “I didn’t realize it for a very long time but now, now I
know.  And I don’t ever intend on losing you, or what we have… will
have.”

She wasn’t sure how she became so blessed.  He loved her… and not
just as a friend.  That forever that she’d always wished for was
finally coming true.  “We won’t lose what we have and it’s only going
to get better.”  Just the thought caused her to shiver again.

“We won’t.” He agreed. “And it will. I’m going to devote a great deal
of my time to making sure that happens and happens to the best possible
potentials.”

“You just being here does that, Scott.  Knowing that you feel for me
everything I feel for you does that.”  He was going to walk in a room
and smile at *her* first.  He was going to come home from his missions
to her… share his life with her.  Life was indeed the best now.

Scott’s smile was lopsided, as he pressed closer. “But there’s *more*
than that Lana. Much more. And I’m going to show you everything that I
can.” His mouth sought out the soft skin of her neck and began playing
across it.

She closed her eyes and leaned her head to the side, enjoying his
touch. She knew the pleasures to be had from the flesh, but nothing
could prepare her for what *his* touch was doing to her.  This was what
making love to your soul mate felt like.  Bliss was too soft a word for
it.

Pulling back, he found her lips, brushing across them in a half-kiss
before seeking a longer and more sustaining contact. This was the
sweetest of tastes and he wanted to go slowly. Linger.

She opened her mouth at his gentle persuasion, finally getting that
more intimate contact.  His mouth was hot and though it was a slow
kiss, it was no less demanding.  She wanted to savor every touch of
their lips and their tongues.

His mouth never leaving hers, Scott’s hands slid into her hair and
pressed her back against the wall, molding his lanky form to her softer
one, feeling the heat of her form radiating through his. The scent of
her freshly bathed body intoxicated him with every passing second.

Her hands ran a trail down his chest then across his ribs and around to
his lower back.  Once there, she grasped him tightly.  He was hers now;
she could touch him however she wanted.  And she wanted to touch all of
him… to feel his muscles under her fingers.  She wanted all of him,
but not quickly.  She wanted to savor every moment.

Sensing the change in her, he spun them away from the wall, walking her
back toward the bed. It was time to take this beyond the point of no
return. “This will change everything.” He murmured with a smile. “Are
you sure?”

Her eyes dropped to those delicious lips before moving back to look
directly at him.  The love she felt was reflected back at her in a way
she couldn’t even have dreamed about.  It was with a surety that was
uncommon for her that she returned the smile and said, “I’ve never been
more sure about anything in my life, Scott.”

His protected gaze bored into her eyes as he reached out, found the
loose corner of her towel and pushed it free of her body before he
guided her back onto her bed. “Amazing how that works, isn’t it?” He
murmured, his appreciative hands sliding down her body, acquainting him
with it.

She cried out softly as those hands touched her.  There wasn’t an inch
of her that wasn’t hot, an inch of her that wasn’t ready.  But she
wanted to drag this out and make it last forever.  “You’re amazing,”
she managed to say as she worked on pulling his shirt free of his
jeans.

“Me?” He replied with a raised eyebrow. “You’re the goddess of the
bathtub.” His grin was teasing as he lowered his mouth to her breast.

“Oh God,” she half whispered.  She’d never saw herself as much, but
when he touched her, she could almost believe she was a goddess.
Forgetting about the shirt, she slid her hands inside his jeans, and
caressed the soft flesh. That gave her almost as big a thrill as his
mouth on her breast.

A low moan rumbled through his chest in reply and he trailed kisses
from one breast to another, working on it carefully and lovingly. It
was incredible and almost unbelievable that he was with her. Like
*this*.

Wanting more than anything to feel his bare flesh against hers, she
panted as she said, “Let’s even things up, shall we?”  Her hands slid
from his pants and moved up to pull his shirt up, trying to get it off.

Pulling back, Scott helped her in the interests of not pushing off his
glasses as well. “Even is good. Very good.”

She ran a loving finger along the rim of his glasses before bringing
him down to kiss his forehead.  “I’m glad you agree because you are
still overdressed.  And well… I’d like to see all of you.”

He grinned. “Impatient aren’t we?” Moving slightly, he kicked off his
pants and returned to her again.

“Actually, no,” she corrected.  “I’ve waited a long time for this and
don’t want to waste another second.”  Her look turned a bit impish as
she teased… “Well, I’d like to take my time, but I don’t want to
waste it.”

Scott’s grin remained firmly in place and he kissed her again. “You are
a bad girl. I love it.”

Giving him a gentle push, she rolled them over and gave him a deep,
long, and passionate kiss before leaving his lips.  Softly, she said,
“And I love you,” before kissing her way down his neck to his nipples.
She wanted to taste him as much as he’d wanted to taste her.

He made a surprised noise, and then settled back with a grin. “And a
bad girl who’s full of surprises.” He noted with amusement. “If I
didn’t love you before…”

She looked up at him and smiled.  “Well, don’t think you just get to
lay back and enjoy, mister.”  She winked.  “I’m fulfilling fantasies,
here.”  He had to know by now just how long she’d been waiting for him.
She’d dreamed about this on more than one occasion.

Laughing, Scott nodded. “Yes ma’am, laying back and enjoying is my sole
reason for living.”

She swatted his thigh.  “I said you DON’T get to do only that!”  It was
nice to know they were still able to tease, even at a moment as serious
and meaningful as this.  She wasn’t the most experienced in the world.
Her few encounters didn’t mean nearly as much as this one, so she was
going to make the most of it.  Slowly, she kissed down his abdomen to
his navel… purposely not going any lower than that.

“Aww…but I wanted to.” He teased. “I was all set up to enjoy watching
you work. It’s a beautiful sight y’know. Absolutely beautiful.”

Moving back up, she kissed that smart mouth, letting her hand move down
to caress where he wanted her to work.  “Impressive, Mr. Summers.”  She
smiled. She had to take a second to realize that it was she who was
putting that look on his face.  She wanted to make that happen for the
rest of her life.

A groan of pleasure was his reply and he instinctively moved up into
her hand. “God…” He sighed out. “You are beyond incredible. Beyond
incredible.”

She continued the touch, but wasn’t quite ready to grant him release,
though she still wanted to explore.  Moving off to the side of him, she
let her eyes wander down to her hand where it touched his manhood.  He
was simply gorgeous, in every way shape and form.  Deliberately, she
let her hand trail down to cup his testicles.  Getting to know him was
going to drive her beyond the brink if she wasn’t careful.

Behind his glasses, Scott’s eyes slid shut and he gritted his teeth as
another groan escaped him. “You’re killing me Lana.” He brought up a
grin, his expression one that held more than a little desire. “Not that
I’m complain… Oh damn…”

Letting go of him, she gave him another consuming kiss before saying,
“I can’t have that, can I?  The killing you part.”  She didn’t think
she would ever get enough of kissing him, but she finally let her lips
leave his and her mouth roam to where he needed it to go… just to
take the edge off.

Kismet Part Three
by Christina A and M Edison

A strangled cry of sheer pleasure escaped him and he resisted the urge
to bury his hands into her hair, curling them into the sheets instead.
He followed up the cry with a hissed exhalation; his body tightened up
and tensed, poised on the edge. He had more control than this but it
seemed Lana was quite easily stripping it from him.

She heard his cries and they only spurred her even more to give him
what he needed.  She loved the fact that she was doing this to him, and
he tasted damn good to her.  Musky and masculine.  Her hands rubbed up
his body as she rested most of her weight on her knees.  She wanted his
hands in hers, and only when she found them did they finally stop
wandering.

He gripped hers tightly, anchoring his concentration in the feeling of
her fingers twining around his. “Lana…” He groaned out her name,
forcing himself to respond at a measured pace, wanting this to last as
long as possible. The idea of this ending was torture.

She held nothing back, wanting this to be imprinted on her memory
forever. Not like it wouldn’t be anyway.  Her hair fell around her head
and she worked diligently to bring him around.  This was just the first
of many rounds tonight.  It was far from being over.

Scott moaned in a low tone, his body slowly but surely taking control
away from him. The sensation of her hair playing across his skin was
incredibly erotic and only added to the wonders she was working on him.

She didn’t have many tricks up her sleeve, and it seemed he was a
master of control… far more than she would have been if positions
were reversed… but she’d waited an extremely long time for him.  She
began to move more quickly, making the channel she’d created tighter
just to enhance the sensations.  She couldn’t help but admire this
Adonis underneath her.  He was simply divine.

Release finally overtaking him, Scott groaned out Lana’s name, his body
aflame with pleasure. It was one of the most intense experiences he’d
had and he knew a lot of that was because of *who* it was with.

She took as much as she could, enjoying all the sensations that
surrounded her.  She continued to suckle and lick until not only his
climax was complete, but also he was clear of all fluids.  It was only
then that she let her head rest on his pelvis.  “You are one remarkable
man.”

Taking in a steadying breath, he rested a hand on her hair. “And you’re
beyond remarkable, Lanie. You’re absolutely fantastic. *That* was
absolutely fantastic.”

“Really?”  She laughed lightly.  “You were my first.”  She paused.
“Well my first to go THAT far with.”  She didn’t mind admitting that,
not to him anyway.  She wanted to experience everything with him.
She’d been inhibited with the other man in her life, only allowing what
was necessary to feel good.  But with Scott, she wanted it all.

His eyebrows rose in surprise. “You’d never tell.” A teasing smile
touched his face. “Must be natural talent.”

She shook her head, rather enjoying this position.  “Nah!  I think it
has everything to do with *who* I’m with and not what I’m doing.”  She
shrugged.  “You’re all I’ve ever wanted.”  She kissed his lower abdomen
after that statement; glad she wasn’t looking at his face.

Pulling her up, he pinned her beneath him and kissed her fiercely. “And
you’re all I’m ever going to want. Ever.”

She couldn’t help herself.  She felt like she could easily turn into a
blithering idiot.  She wiped away tears.  It was the only way she had
of expressing the depth of what she was feeling.

His hand moved to stroke away the tears even as he dropped a kiss onto
her forehead. “You’re beautiful.” He told her softly.

“And I love you,” she said just as softly.  “Always have and always
will.”

He brought his lips to hers again as he slowly and leisurely slid into
her body, resting there to adjust to all the magnificent sensations
feeding back to him.

He swallowed her cry of sheer ecstasy.  Her legs wrapped around his
waist, as she let the feel of him inside her wash through her entire
being. This was more than perfect.  There wasn’t a word in the English
language that could properly describe what it felt like having him with
her.  Before he started moving, she managed to say, “I’m never letting
you leave, you know?”  Her voice was very shaky, but the meaning of her
words was clear.

Scott nodded once before kissing her again. “I’m never going anywhere.”

Thus said, he began the slow, deliberate motion, rocking their bodies
together.  This was heaven.

Moving with him, knowing they were one and were going to be one for the
rest of their lives, Lana let herself fall into the purity of the
moment.  They were one… always.  Mind, spirit, and now body.  And he
was hers to love… all hers.

Letting his lips linger near hers, Scott devoted himself to the mission
of returning the pleasure she’d given him to her with an added bonus.
He had every intention of making this the best sexual experience of her
life.  He could see no other option available to him, not that he
looked hard. This was his reason to exist at that moment in time.

Lana had never, ever been given to multiple orgasms.  It was only on
the rare occasion that she had even one.  But as Scott moved within
her, she felt her first come rather easily.  But it wasn’t the big one.
Oh no!  Something larger was brewing between them, and every ounce of
her being was focused on the pleasure she was receiving.

His mouth dropping to her breasts, Scott moved harder and faster within
her.  If he was reading her right, another more powerful orgasm was
building and he knew it would be a counterpoint to the one that was
fast approaching in him. This had most certainly not been what he was
planning when he’d come to her room that night but he also knew that he
was most definitely not complaining. This was worlds better than any
other option. *Worlds* better.

Her arms wrapped around him tightly, as her fingers dug into his back.
Never had she experienced anything this intense.  As she matched his
movements and did everything to control this orgasm so that she went
with him, she knew that she’d never actually been loved until he loved
her.  She never actually lived until he loved her.  If he’d been a big
part of her life before, he was her life now.  This was an
all-consuming love… one that would never let her go.

Scott moved up to rest his forehead against the smooth skin of her
shoulder, his hands curling into the pillow on either side of her head.
Murmuring her name slightly, he pressed a kiss into the silky skin
then, with a soft shudder, let himself fall into another, equally
intense, orgasm.

Feeling his surrender caused her second release of the night.  It was
far more intense than the first because this one was *with* him.  It
was two separate entities becoming the one that they should have always
been.  She shook with the force of it and couldn’t help but call out
his name.  *HIS* name.  It sounded wonderful to her.

Rolling them, he slipped a hand into her hair, holding her close in his
arms. He didn’t know what to say or what to do. The moment seemed
bigger than them both, bigger than any expression he could put on it.
There were no words for this. None at all.

She situated herself so that her head was on the pillow directly beside
his but her chin was resting on his shoulder.  Her forehead pressed
against the side of his.  She didn’t speak, didn’t move, simply looked
at him and let the moment sink in for her.  It was more than the sex;
it was the realization that he loved her.  He loved her like she loved
him.

Scott glanced over at her and smiled faintly. Still words eluded him.
Wasn’t there supposed to be something poetic that he should say? It
seemed to him there was. If so, his poetic file was empty at the
moment. But he wasn’t complaining. There wasn’t anything that could be
said that could even hope to top the look in her eyes. Nothing that
could be said in any language on Earth that he could think of.

Moving more closely to him, she kissed his nose softly and let her eyes
slide closed.  They’d talk tomorrow.  Tonight, she just wanted to be
held in his arms, to feel him breathing beside her, to hear his
heartbeat.  He was the reason she existed, and tonight was a rebirth
for her.

“I come bearing food.” Scott murmured into his lover’s ear the next
morning as he set a tray down on the stand beside her bed. “C’mon,
Lanie, time to wake up. Can’t stay in bed all day, even if it is a
Saturday.”

Her eyes fluttered open a bit.  When she got a look at him, her eyes
opened and her entire face beamed.  “Oh I think I can if it’s for a
good cause.”  Sitting up a bit, she placed her blankets around her and
inhaled.  “What did you bring?”

“Everything they had.” He replied with a grin. “Tea, coffee, toast,
croissants, jam, eggs, bacon and sundry side dishes. Oh, and I grabbed
a couple minipacks of cereal in case you’d prefer that.”

“Scottie,” she laughed lightly.  Her grin turning a bit evil, she
crooked a finger at him and asked, “Share the buffet with me?”  She
wanted just a bit of an appetizer before she made short work of the
food he’d brought up to her.

He gave her a wary look before picking up a piece of bacon and popping
it into her mouth. “Behave, Lanie. We’ll spill something and you try
explaining *that* to the cleaning staff.”

Pulling him in for a kiss, she let him go and smiled.  “I don’t care
about the cleaning staff.  I want to eat breakfast in bed with you.”
She patted the bed beside her and pulled the tray onto her lap.  Taking
a sausage, she offered it to him.  “I’m too famished to do anything
other than consume food at the moment anyway.”

He eased onto the bed, watching the liquids on the tray warily before
settling in. “Something tells me I should just get out of the way and
watch you work.”

She laughed.  “Naw.  You can have some.  It’s *our* breakfast, after
all.”  She looked at the choice of jams and said, “I want the
strawberry jam though.”  She could do this… everyday for the rest of
her life.  She prayed that he’d feel the same way.

“Fine by me. I’ll take the blueberry.” He reached for it then grinned
at her. “Tomorrow, you get the food, I sleep in.” Kissing her quickly,
he added. “Equal opportunity being what it is.”

Happiness literally radiated from her.  “Tomorrow is omelet Sunday.
Which means, I’ll have to get up early.”  She wiped a bit of crumb from
his mouth and handed him a croissant she’d buttered and jammed.  “You
like ham, cheese, and onion, right?”

“Easy on the onion though.” He cautioned, nodding quickly before biting
into the offering.

“Just enough to flavor and not overpower.  That’s a good thing.  You
can eat crackers on my bed, but onion breath is a BIG concern for me.”
Well, the teasing was still there between them.  What had really
changed except the fact that she was finally able to express her
emotions for him?

Scott smirked. “Just don’t burn the omelet this time. Last time
Storm nearly needed to blow a wall out of the kitchen to get the smoke
out.” Oh yeah, teasing was fun. Very fun. Especially when Lana got that
look on her face.

“Scott Summers, I did not.”  She gave him a good pout for effect.  “I
was supposed to be under the expert tutelage of a professional.  It was
NOT my fault that he suddenly had something better to do!  Not my fault
at all!”  She poked him in the ribs.  “Be careful or all you’ll get is
a bowl of Wheaties tomorrow morning.”

“Wheaties are good.” He demurred. “And besides, not my fault that
Bobby’d frozen a door shut. It was April Fool’s. I had to go around
solving power related pranks.”

“YOU put him up to it!!”  She managed an appalled look.  “THEN, you
talked poor Alexander into becoming invisible and rearranging the
furniture in the lounge AND YOU removed the light bulbs so everyone was
tripping over themselves because the blinds were also frozen to the
window.”  She bit into a piece of bacon and chewed thoughtfully.
“Though I appreciated the effort.  It was hilarious.”

Scott smirked. “I aim to please.” He stole a bite of her toast. “This
April Fools should be even better with us teaming up.”

“We generally always do team up, unless you’re pranking against me as
well.”  She leaned her head against his shoulder.  “But we will be a
formidable force this year.  I have at least one person in mind for a
really interesting prank.”

“You do, hmm?” His lips found her temple. “And just who will that be?”

“I’m not telling,” she teased back.  Lifting her face to look at him,
she smiled.  “But it will be fun.  And I have months to plan.”  She
waggled her brows for emphasis.

“Tell me.” He ordered with a bemused expression. “Otherwise, I will be
most unhappy. Most unhappy indeed.”

Her hand moved across his lower abdomen and dipped under the blanket
playfully before pulling back out and picking up a piece of toast.
“Months and months to plan.  But something Storm told me comes to mind.
Has to do with the color yellow, I think.”

He groaned slightly. “Yellow spandex. Wolverine. You do like taking
your life into your hands, don’t you?’

“Oh I’m not giving it to him…” she snorted softly as she laughed.
“But everyone will see *HIM* in it!”

Scott snickered. “Shifting is a dangerous power. Especially when you’re
the one wielding it and feeling quite mischievous. Very evil of you,
Lanie, very evil.”

She smiled brightly.  “And you love it!  Serves him right.  It will do
him some good to have a bit of humility.”  She settled back on his
shoulder.  “Maybe I should do it on Halloween instead.  For the costume
ball?”

“Oh no, the costume ball should be something special. Save the
embarrassing fun for April.” He shook his head, chuckling. “That one’s
for April Fools and April Fools only.”

She nodded in agreement.  “Then April Fool’s it is.  And it’s a good
thing we still have time to plan for the costume ball.  I’ve never
dressed as a tandem before.”

”You can take care of that.” Scott replied. “I trust you. Just pick out
something good. You’ve got great taste anyway.”

“Oh no, mister!  We’re going to this thing… and I’m taking great
liberty in assuming we’re going together.”  She laughed.  “We do this
together or you are going as Raggedy Andy.”

“Blackmail, Ms. Edison?” he raised an eyebrow behind his glasses. “I
wouldn’t have thought you capable of it.”

“Never.  Just fun and games.  You know me too well to honestly believe
I’d dress you up as a rag doll.  Now I could make everyone *think* you
did, but I really want that little surprise for another mutant.”  She
smiled.  “Besides, we have months to contemplate these things.”

“So we do.” He agreed. “Just suggest something along the line and we’ll
see how it works.”

“Lots of things to see to.  Lots of them.”  She moved the tray off of
her lap and put it on the table.  Sliding back in next to him, she
asked, “So, do we have anything planned for today?”

“It’s Saturday.” Scott shrugged. “I was thinking maybe work on my bike,
relax. It is one of the few days we get to truly enjoy ourselves and
relax.”

“Work on your bike?  Sounds like fun.  I can pick up my collection of
poems that I’m reading.  The magnolias are in bloom.  And I love that
tree.”

“It does look beautiful this time of year.” He agreed. “Meet for lunch?
Maybe spend the afternoon together?” Mentally he went over what he’d
planned for the day and found nothing that couldn’t be rescheduled.

“You betcha.”  She was reluctant to get out of the bed, but didn’t want
to be the kind of woman who smothered her significant other.  “I’ll
even let you have the shower first and I’ll take the breakfast dishes
down.  How’s that?”

“Who says we need to trade off on showers?” He questioned with a lazy
smirk.  “Dishes can go later.”

“That’s true.”  She looked over at the dishes and smiled.  “Besides,
someone will just dirty them again, so what’s the rush.”

“I love how you think.” Scott’s smirk widened and he moved off the bed
with the dishes in hand, putting them back onto the tray before holding
out a hand for her. “M’lady?”

The girl who used to be so shy by nature popped out of bed and took his
hand.  “Um… Scott.  Did we let the water out from last night?”  The
thought crossed her mind of the full tub of cold water still sitting in
the bathroom.

“I did it this morning when I got up.” He replied with a shrug and a
smile. “We were busy last night.”

She sighed.  “Thank God.  That tub has a slow drain and we’d have to
wait forever to shower.”  She laughed at her rambling.  “Of course,
after you play grease monkey, you’re going to need another shower.”

Catching her, he lifted her up in his arms and grinned. “You will too.
If you help that is. If not, I’ll just chase you down and smear grease.
I have no intentions of showing alone tonight.”

She giggled.  “Oh I see how you are!”  She poked his chest.  “Well, I
had no intentions of you ever showering alone again.  Ever.  How’s
that?”

His grin widened. “Fine by me.” Standing her up in the shower, he
turned the water on and got in behind her. “In fact, it’s fantastic.”

The warm water flowed over her body and she picked up the soap and
turned to face him.  “No.  This is fantastic.”  She let the bar of soap
run down his body.  “More than fantastic.”

“It is.” He agreed, taking it from her and setting it aside. With
careful hands, he guided her head under the spray, soaking her hair
before reaching for the shampoo. Pouring a generous amount into one
palm, he began working it through her hair slowly.

She felt the water wash across her chest and couldn’t help but lean
back into his chest.  With her eyes closed, she allowed her mind to
supply what they must have looked like together.  If her mutation had
been glowing, she would have.  Her heart was literally overflowing with
happiness.

With similarly careful movements, Scott tended to her, washing and
rinsing her hair before washing the rest of her and then she in turn
returning the favor. This morning wasn’t about sex; it was simply an
opportunity to become familiar with their bodies and the likes and
dislikes of the other. A chance to be together.

After the shower, Lana insisted on drying his hair.  She could easily
get used to this.  Setting the brush down, she impulsively hugged him
from behind.  It wasn’t meant to instigate anything, just to simply
hold him to her.  She was being silly, of course, but she suddenly
wasn’t looking forward to reading poetry by herself.

“Something wrong?” He asked, sensing the discomfort and turning to face
her.

She sighed.  “Naw!  Just me being silly.”  She sat on the edge of the
tub.  “Just seems that Shelley isn’t so interesting right now.  No need
to fall into his romantic ideals about love when I have it right here
with me.  But then again, I have to teach it.  So, I should read it.
Told you I was weird.”

“Well, you don’t have to read it today. Reading it because you’ll be
teaching it means it’s work.” He grinned. “Today isn’t about work,
remember?  Let’s do something together instead. Any ideas? Walk maybe?
Run? Ride?”

“You wanted to work on your bike.”  She shook her head.  “It has to be
in fine working condition should Logan try to steal it again.”  She
gave him a wink.  “You could take me for a ride on the bike though.
That would be fun.”

Scott kissed her forehead then smiled. “Promise not to shift into Logan
when I’m not looking?”

She laughed.  “Ooo, I hadn’t thought of doing that!”  She was simply
overjoyed to actually be spending this day with him.  She’d be willing
to give him space tomorrow.  But this was the biggest thing to ever
happen to her in her life.  Alone time was not what she needed right
now.  “Of course I won’t.  Today is about you and me.  But I will
reserve that for a later date,” she teased.  “Thanks for the idea.”

He groaned. “I’m in for it now aren’t I?” Laughing, he kissed her
again.  “You are something, Lanie. You really are.” Eyeing her face, he
grinned. “And I’m going to put a nice stripe of grease right down that
pretty little nose. It’ll look fantastic.”

“Oooo, you do that mister and it will be no holds barred.  I can have
LOTS of fun with my mutation, as you well know.”  She thought for a
moment.  “You know what else we should do… bring some of your clothes
in here.  Won’t do having you running down the hall in your robe for
clothing.”

“Why not?” He countered with a laugh. “Before the day’s out, you’ll
probably shift into me and do it anyway.”

“I promise you I won’t.”  She smiled sweetly.  “I will, however, help
you bring some if you want.”

Scott chuckled then bent to kiss her again. “That would be a help.”

“That’s me.” She pointed to her chest.  “Helpful, Aliana.”  Giving him
a wink, she said, “Though I’m actually being selfish.  I like having
you around.”

“Well, you can be selfish all you want.” He reassured. “I’m not
complaining in the least.”

She laughed.  “You might.”  Grabbing a scrunchie, she pulled her blonde
hair back into a ponytail and said, “So, are we going to play with that
motorcycle or what?”

He glanced at his clothing. “After I change. Can’t go messing around
with grease dressed like this.”

She sat on a small stool and gave him a mischievous look.  “Can I
help?”

“I’ve been dressing myself for a few years now.” He replied with a
grin.  “But if you want to come along, sure.”

“Maybe I should restate my question.  Can I watch?”  She had to laugh
at that.  “Tell you what.  I’m going to pick up a few things around
here.  I’ll meet you in the garage?”

“Deal.” Scott caught her and pulled her close for another kiss before
starting toward the bedroom door.

When he left, she exhaled deeply and sat on the bed.  It was impossible
to believe that just 24 hours ago she was thinking that this would
never happen.  That he’d never feel the same for her as she did for
him.  But he did.  She was one lucky woman.  Quickly, she made the bed
and grabbed up the breakfast dishes to take them downstairs.

For disclaimers, see part one.

Kismet Part Four
by M Edison and Christina A

Lana looked at the tools spread out in front of her.  It was on the tip
of her tongue to ask him again what he wanted, but she’d already asked
three times.  Finally taking a guess at what tool he wanted, she picked
it up and handed it to him.  “Here you go,” she said tentatively.

Scott cast a cursory glance at the tool in her hand and nodded, taking
it.  “Thanks.” He looked up at her and grinned. “You don’t have to stay
so far away. I promise not to cover you head to toe in grease.”

She smiled.  “I’m not worried about grease.  You just aren’t so
tempting if you are out of arm’s reach.  And we wouldn’t want the kids
to get an eyeful.”  She laughed lightly, but moved closer to sit beside
him.

His grin widened. “Lana, do you think I’ll make a move on you *here*?!”
Sitting up slightly, he reached beyond her for another tool. “And just
what sort of man do you take me for?”

She coughed to cover a laugh.  “I wasn’t worried about *YOU* making a
move on me.  You have no idea how sexy you look working on that bike.
It sets off all kinds bells and whistles.”  She thumped her chest to
get the coughing under control.  “I’m not all peaches and cream, you
know?”

Scott feigned a look of shock. “You aren’t?!” He shook his head.
“You’ve officially shattered my illusion of your sweet, innocent and
angelic nature.” He laughed. “Though, to be truthful, last night proved
that one.”

She couldn’t help the blush.  “Play nice.  We are in public.”  She
poked at his ribs.  “And really, we wouldn’t want everyone to know that
I have that other side.”

He smirked, running a fingertip along her upper thigh. “And why not?
It’d be fun to see their reactions.”

She moved his hand.  “You have an evil side.  A wondrously evil side.
We’d shock them into a coma.”

Returning his hand, he grinned wickedly, tracing it in slow circles.
“We would, which is why it’s so damn tempting.”

“Which is why I was sitting over there,” she laughed as she pointed to
where she was sitting.  Her other hand rested on top of his and
caressed it softly.  “But I like it right where I am.”

Scott moved slightly and kissed her slowly. “I’m glad to hear it.” He
smiled, trailing his fingers along her jaw.

She was tempted to look around and make sure no one was around, but
truthfully, she didn’t care.  Taking his hand, she kissed each finger
before putting the last one in her mouth.  Sucking slightly, she
released it and said, “I’m glad to be able to say it.”

“I’m glad to be able to hear you say it.” He replied softly, his voice
growing husky from her actions. “Incredibly glad.”

She moved their hands down so she could hold them in her lap.  They
were very much in public, the kids used this garage to work on their
projects.  Logan was in and out of here stealing motorcycles and such.
She wasn’t sure how she wanted people to find out about them, but at
the moment, she didn’t care.  Her free hand cupped his cheek and she
leaned forward touching her lips to his for a gentle kiss.  She’d
always thought he had the most kissable mouth ever created.  And she’d
been right.

His hand found the back of her neck and drew her closer for a lingering
kiss, picking up where hers had left off. Finally, when they’d parted,
he smiled lopsidedly. “We keep this up and we’re going to get into more
trouble than we could possibly imagine if someone catches us.”

Her forehead pressed against his and she chuckled.  “Right now, I don’t
really care.  Let someone catch us.”  She sighed.  “Though I suppose I
wouldn’t get that motorcycle ride, and you wanted to spend the day
working on your bike.”  She knew she was wicked, but couldn’t help
letting her hand run down his chest as she spoke.

He caught her hand and shook his head. “Who knew there was such an
insatiable woman beneath that sweet and innocent exterior. I think I’ve
unleashed a monster.”

“Perhaps you have.”  Though she hadn’t been like this with her previous
lover.  It was who she was with… pure and simple.  “I’ll try very
hard to be good.  But now you understand why I wanted to sit over
there.”

Scott’s smile softened. “I always did. I just like living dangerously.”

“Don’t go back to being tempting, Summers.”  Placing her hands under
her legs, she said, “I’m going to try very hard not to put us in an odd
situation.  These hands will only move when you need a tool.”  If she
knew which one he wanted.  Just looking at him was putting all kinds of
naughty thoughts in her mind.  It always had, but now she knew the
pleasure that he could give… and it was a very powerful aphrodisiac.

He grinned. “Go back? Who said I ever left?” Nevertheless, he returned
to work on his bike, keeping careful watch on her. “I’m discovering
that I enjoy tempting you. It’s fun. Not to mention *very* rewarding.”

“Rewarding?  Oh yeah.  Making out in the garage while children and who
knows who else wanders in and out… that’s…”  She paused as he bent
over to work on the bike and she got a good look at his backside.
“That’s rather appealing.”

“What is?” He turned to look at her, his grin returning. “Temptation,
Lanie?”

Biting her lip, she nodded.  “Something along those lines.  Though you
are doing it on purpose.  I just know you are.”  Good thing he didn’t
seem to mind not getting a lot of work done.

“Doing what on purpose?” Scott questioned innocently. “I’m just working
on my bike with my girlfriend.”

She was taken aback only momentarily.  Girlfriend.  She really was his
girlfriend!  Forget sitting on her hands, she moved quickly forward and
hugged him, kissed him, and then moved back to her original position.
“Well, yeah, but there’s something VERY tempting about that.”

“Very tempting huh?” His lips twitched in amusement. “How tempting?”

She mock-scowled at him.  “Tempting in that I waited a very long time
to be able to tell you that you were tempting.  Tempting in that I
tried to find other men who could tempt me half as much and they all
fell short.  That’s how tempting.”  He’d said there was nothing she
couldn’t tell him.  And she believed him.

Scott’s face gentled and he tugged her to her feet and into his arms.
There was nothing that could be said to that so he just held her,
resting his chin on her hair and inhaling the scent of it. He didn’t
know what he’d done to deserve her, if anything, but he was damn sure
he wasn’t about to let her go.

She wrapped her arms around his waist, suddenly not caring where they
were.  He was the air she breathed… her only nourishment.  It was in
a very soft voice that she said, “Definitely tempting.”

“Definitely.” He echoed absently, his thoughts taking an interesting
turn.  He had the distinct feeling that he wasn’t going to get much
done on the bike that day.

Giving him another squeeze, she sighed.  “You wanted to play with the
bike today, and I’m keeping you from it.”  She shrugged.  “I would
apologize if I wasn’t feeling so selfish right now.  Gimme a minute and
I’ll go back to just watching you be tempting.”  The last was meant as
a tease and she hoped he took it that way.

“You can feel selfish all you want.” Scott answered softly. “I think
I’m benefiting as much from this as you are.”

They’d been lucky thus far in maintaining privacy.  She was grateful
for that.  Pulling away just enough to look at him, she smiled.
“Really?”

“Of course.” He touched her cheek. “Why wouldn’t I?”

She shrugged.  “C’mon, Scottie.  You of all people know about my
insecurities.  I get scared sometimes, thinking this is all a wonderful
dream.  I couldn’t take reality if we weren’t like this.  Not now.  No
way.”

Scott considered it and did the only thing that came to mind.

He pinched her.

Quite firmly.

“Ouch!” she cried, jumping and smacking at his hand.  “What did you do
that for?”  Rubbing her offended bum, she got a good look at his
mischievous smirk and smiled.  “I take that back.  You aren’t tempting,
you’re evil.” Though evil looked pretty darn good with that smirk on
its face.

“Well, you were wondering if this was a dream.” He shrugged lightly.
“Now you know it’s not.”

“Oh, so I should thank you for bruising my bum?”  Still rubbing, she
looked up at him and smiled… devilishly sweet.  “Thank you.”

He raised one eyebrow, suddenly worried as to what that look meant.
“Lana… What are you up to?”

Shaking her head, she replied.  “Nothing, nothing in the least.  You
think I’m the kind of person who’d retaliate.  You know me better than
that.”  Moving forward, she pressed herself against him, her hand
moving to not rub her bum, but to quickly brush across something VERY
sensitive.  “I’m not the tempting one of this duo.”

He groaned slightly and grabbed her hands, pinning them behind her. “Oh
you aren’t hmm…” He smirked. “Which one of us suggested…” Leaning
forward, he whispered one of their more acrobatic maneuvers of the
night before.  “Certainly wasn’t me.”

She shivered.  “That’s… that’s not tempting because we actually DID
that.  This is tempting.”  She turned and whispered in his ear
something she’d always wanted to try but never felt comfortable doing.
“Now, that’s tempting.”

Scott shook his head, desire filling his eyes even though she couldn’t
see them. “Lanie, you officially take the role of tempter in this
relationship.”  He grinned. “I guess we’re done with the bike for the
day.”

“Not necessarily.  It could just give you something to look forward to
tonight,” she offered.  “I’ll do my best to be good and just hand you
tools.”

“After you say *THAT* you want me to go back to work?” He shook his
head again. “Lanie, you have no idea how tempted I am right now to
forget propriety and throw you onto the hood of the nearest car.”

Oh now THAT got her attention.  Without thought of propriety or
anything except pure desire, she moved as far forward as she could and
initiated a long, hard, passionate kiss.  She’d never realized how
stimulating just talking that way could be.  But with that one small
statement, he had her worked up enough to allow him to do just as he
said.

When they came up for air, he grinned. “Your room or mine?”

She didn’t even stop to think.  His was closest.  “Yours,” she said,
huskily.  “We’ll work on the bike tomorrow.”

He smirked. “If we work like we did today, we won’t get far.”

“I think getting out of bed today was a bad idea.”  She thought for a
moment and corrected herself.  “The shower was fantastic though.  But
maybe, just maybe, there’s more of a physical need than either of us
admitted at first.”

“Considering we can’t keep our hands off each other, I’m willing to say
that’s a pretty safe bet.” Scott guided her toward the door. “Now get
moving before I throw you over my shoulder.”

“You wouldn’t dare!” she retorted, half shocked that he would consider
any such thing.  “That is just asking for a whole slew of rumors to get
started.  What would Professor Xavier say if you were seen carrying him
down the corridor?”

“He’d say you were up to your old tricks again.” He replied with
patient amusement. “Since you’ve tried that trick before with other
people. Besides, you pull a stunt like that, and who knows what I’ll
do.”

Turning to walk backwards so that their progress was not stopped, she
questioned flirtatiously, “And just what would you possibly do?”  She
loved this… being able to talk with him, flirt with him, love him.

“Dump you in the pond.” He said after a moment’s thought. “Put weird
hair dye in your shampoo so your hair turns green, any number of
retaliatory acts. I am the master you know.”

“See!!  You are evil!  To the core!!”  She thought for a moment and
said, “To turn my hair green, you need a very special dye.  But just
remember, I know a few tricks too.”  She waggled her brows.  “But why
worry about retaliatory acts when we can have so much fun getting back
at each other in more interesting ways.”

He grinned. “Simple. You shift into someone else while I’m carrying you
around? *That* requires a non-sexual punishment since it is simply not
done.  There are some things, my dear, that demand a certain kind of
restitution.”

“A non-sexual punishment?  Punishment?”  Turning back around to present
him with her backside, she slipped into ‘teacher’ mode and continued,
“Punishment implies that an act was done with the intent of hurting
another person either in a mental or physical manner.  Now, since I
know you’re strong enough to carry the professor, I wouldn’t be trying
to harm you physically.  And you must be assuming that carrying someone
automatically implies taking them to bed and therein would be the
mental ‘harm’ that would need punishment.  Yet, wouldn’t you carry the
professor if he’d lost his chair or became incapacitated to the point
where it would be quicker to carry him than to wheel him.”  She was
rather enjoying her little dissertation, even though she knew he’d have
some kind of retort… it was still fun.

He shook his head. “Lana, Lana, Lana, you over think things. Did you
not just say, and I quote, ‘a whole slew of rumors’? People usually
don’t start rumors about the benign or innocent. Plus, there’s the fact
that you would also be damaging the Professor’s reputation as well
*and* the fact you would be using your ability to incriminate someone
else, which as I recall, is something you were strongly taught never to
do.” He wagged a finger at her. “Bad, bad girl.”

She laughed.  He never failed to come through for her.  Never.  “Leave
it to you to ruin a perfectly good lecture.  But all of this came about
because of punishment.  I was happily going about our business and
walking to our… your room like a good girl.  You threatened to pick
me up and carry me.”

“You were not walking,” he pointed out. “I was pushing while you talked
and, given your earlier statements, I was – and am – dangerously close
to starting the main event here and now. A decision that would land us
*both* in a great deal of trouble. So, my threat was quite valid and
saved us both a lecture.” Thus said, he nodded firmly, hiding
amusement, and kept going.

“Oh yeah, that’s right.”  She paused and tossed over her shoulder.
“You have to be right all the time, don’t you?  No wonder the professor
let you be the leader of the X-Men, such an ability to poke holes in
theories.  It’s an amazing talent.”  He couldn’t see her face but she
was smiling brightly with happiness.  “And since we’re in the corridor
now, slamming me up against the wall and having your wicked way with me
wouldn’t be a good idea either, would it?”

“No, but you’d certainly deserve it.” Scott countered smoothly with a
faint smirk. “You’ve become positively brat-like.”

“Sorry,” she smiled.  It was all still relatively new to her.  “Don’t
know that I’ve ever been construed as a brat.”

“You have been now.” He grinned. “But don’t worry, I like you this
way.”

“I could endeavor to be good,” she quipped.  “I’m rather good at living
up to other’s expectations.”

“What about your own?” He tugged her close. “Do you live up to your
own? You’ve already surpassed mine by far.”

“My own expectations of myself.  Yesterday, I wasn’t sure about them,
but today, I know.  I have everything I ever wanted.”

Scott smiled and then kissed her slowly. “I’m glad I could be a part of
that, Lanie. You have no idea how glad.”

She touched his face, the fact that they were in the corridor meant
nothing to her.  “I could have been just ‘a friend’ for the rest of my
life if I would have had to.  But I must say with all honesty that I’d
rather have you looking at me like this.  Much more.”

His mouth covered hers and lingered for a long time then he pulled away
to look at her. “I’d rather have you like this myself.” He chuckled.
“Though, I would very much like to have you like this in the privacy of
our own room.”

“Our room?” she questioned happily.  “I dearly love the sound of that.
Whither thou leadest, I will follow.”

He chuckled. “Very biblical of you.”

“Shakespeare, actually.”

“Actually biblical first.” He grinned. “Unless Shakespeare’s a *lot*
older than anyone thought.” Sweeping her up into his arms, he carried
her along the hall.

She laughed.  “You are dancing with danger, Mr. Summers.”  Touching his
chin, she said, “How about this one?  Life is good… very good.”

“I haven’t a clue.” Scott replied with a grin, nudging the bedroom door
open with his foot. “Hint?”

“Me,” she smiled as she answered.  “I wrote it this morning.  Corny,
huh?”  She reached back to help close the door and gave him a wink.  “I
may not be a professional writer, but what I do write comes from the
heart.”

“It’s beautiful.” He affirmed, kissing her forehead. “You should write
professionally.”

She shook her head.  “Naw!  I prefer to teach what was already written.
Besides, once they found out what I truly am, no one would read my
stuff anyway.  And I love teaching.”

“But you could have a great effect on people.” He pointed out. “Showing
them the mind of a mutant without revealing yourself. You could write
with a penname and you wouldn’t have to stop teaching. That’s the
beauty of a writing career. You can work it concurrently with something
else.”

She laughed.  “Scott, methinks this is something you are serious about.
There’s a lot more to writing than just putting words to paper.”
Resting her head on his shoulder, she smiled, “But I do like the idea.”

“You should do it.” He insisted. “And I know what’s involved Lana.” He
reminded gently. “I know a few writers. They could help you.”

“I’d have to deal with humans who would know I was a mutant.”  She
shrugged.  “I can hide it better than most, sure.  But hiding it would
require hiding the single most important thing in the world to me! And
that I won’t do!”

Scott sighed lightly. “Lanie, you know what the Professor says.
Anonymity is our greatest defense right now. Like it or not, every time
we go out there, we hide it. If we didn’t, the results could be
disastrous.”

“Some of us can’t hide it.”  She really didn’t want to go into this
right now.  They danced around it all the time.  It was just such a
conversation that had finally led her to finally venture out of
Westchester, though she never went alone.  “Of course, all of this is
pure conjecture because I’d actually have to convince an agent that I
could write.”

“No, and they stay here where it’s safe.” Scott insisted. “It might be
some day but it’s no excuse for the rest of us. And you can write, we
both know that.”

“You are biased,” she smiled.  “But I love you for it.  This summer,
when I have time, I’ll check into it.  How’s that?”

“Ok.” He affirmed, recognizing a stalling tactic when he saw one. Fine
by him, he had no intention of letting her forget about it. Not a
chance. She had too much talent to hide it within the walls of the
school. “I’ll get the contact numbers for you.”

For disclaimers, see part one.

Kismet Part Five
by Christina A and M Edison

Her fingers began to work on the buttons of his shirt.  “I have no
doubt that you will.  But until then, how about we practice some other
types of contacts?”

“I like the sound of that,” He dropped his hands to her legs, squeezing
lightly. “Contacts of a more *intimate* variety.”

Leaning in, she kissed his neck.  “Ooo, I like those kinds of
contacts.”  With slow deliberateness, she pulled off his shirt,
exposing the skin to her questing lips.

“I thought you might.” He agreed with a soft groan, finding the hem of
her shirt and drawing it over her head, allowing his fingers to play
across her skin, reacquainting himself with the soft feel.

Her hands ran down his sides, playing lightly along his ribs.  “You
know me sooo well.” Her hands made their way up his torso to wrap
around his neck.  “But then, that’s half the fun.”

Dropping them on the bed, he rolled them over, grinning down at her.
“So it is.” His lips found her neck, wandering up and down, tasting and
scenting the smooth silkiness. “And this, I believe,” he murmured
against said skin. “Is the other half. Or at least,” He chuckled. “A
quarter.”

“Ha… half,” she managed to say.  She wasn’t the kind of woman who
needed to be in control and was more than enjoying this half of the
fun.

“Oh, half huh?” He wandered down to her chest, resting his chin between
her breasts and wiggling it teasingly. “I’m honored.”

She giggled and couldn’t help wiggling at the sensation.  “Though I’m
the one who’s honored.”  She messed with his hair, as she smiled down
at him. “Honored beyond words.”

He turned lightly, kissing her breast through the material of her bra,
his mouth lingering on the silken material. “This is in the way.” He
noted with a wink.

She pressed into his mouth.  It was almost an unconscious move.  He was
fantastic beyond words.  The foreplay obviously meant as much to him as
the actual act.  It may have meant even more because he seemed to truly
enjoy making her feel good.  They got pleasure from giving it, and that
was rare these days.  “I like that way,” she said softly.

“With your clothing still on?” He teased gently, moving up to kiss her
slowly.

When he pulled away, she was a bit breathless, though that was
understandable.  “Take it off then,” she said, “you’re very good at
it.”

Scott laughed. “That supposed to be a compliment Ms. Edison?” His
fingers finding the clasp of her bra as he spoke.

She moved just enough to help him get rid of the underclothing.  She
sighed contentedly as her bare flesh pushed against his.  “Oh yes,” she
said with a smile.  “I’d have to say excellent actually.”

His mouth closed over one of her breasts again. “Mmhmmm..” He hummed
against her skin before moving across her chest to the other. “Thank
you.” This was said as he lifted off briefly to grin at her.

Her breathing a bit more rapid, she caressed his cheek as she said,
“No, thank you.”  Every moment was like a dream come true for her.  And
the fact that they were still best friends was more than she could have
ever imagined.

He shrugged lightly. “No reason to thank me.” He kissed her again.
“With the way I’ve been walking around like I had blinders on… it’s a
wonder we’re here… like this.”

Holding his face in her hands, she smiled gently.  “They weren’t
blinders, Scott.  They were bonified reasons.  And whatever path we had
to take, at least we’re here together now.  And that means more to me
than anything.”

He kissed her again, unsure of what to say in the face of that. He
finally chose to say nothing, preferring to slowly work his way down
her body again, covering her in kisses. There was nothing to be said
but there was plenty to do, to feel, to treasure.

Her head pressing back into the pillow, she let in a harsh intake of
breath. Ok, this was new.  She didn’t know how he did it, but he seemed
to know exactly what to do to give her the most amount of pleasure.
She had been truly blessed beyond measure.

Shedding his own clothing, Scott moved to slide into her, taking them
on a slow and leisurely path toward their completion. This wasn’t about
a race. They had all the time in the world and he wanted to make sure
she remembered that and experienced every possible moment.

Lana’s mind easily changed track from what she expected was going to
happen to what was happening.  The reality of it was very nice indeed
and she moved with him easily.  Slow was good.

Seeking out her earlobe, Scott nipped and teased it with his mouth
while upping the tempo a little faster, his body urging hers along with
a steady motion and strong intensity. This was about her and her
pleasure, his own came second.

She had thought of little but being back in his arms since they had the
nice leisurely shower this morning, so lasting long wasn’t in her
vocabulary.  It wasn’t the explosion of last night, but it was no less
sweet or awe-inspiring.  It was perfect, just like him.

His lips wandering across her neck and up to the other ear, Scott added
a few murmured endearments as they loved, meaning every word as if
there were no other option for him. And there wasn’t. He well and truly
meant every word that crossed his lips.

She felt herself drifting down from the euphoria, yet still they moved
together.  She heard the love in his words and felt it in their
lovemaking. She wrapped her legs around his waist, enjoying the act for
the love they shared.  This time around was for him. And there was
something to be said for enjoying it this way.

Scott groaned in pleasure, moving faster, his face buried against her
skin and inhaling the beautiful scent that was Lana. Murmuring her
name, he rolled them over so that she was on top of him and then thrust
up hard, following instinctive motions.

Taking the lead easily, she placed her hands on his chest and tossed
her head back as she arched into the movement.  Her eyes were closed
for the moment as she let herself give over to the sensation of feel.
He seemed determined to give her multiples every time they were
together.

Grasping her hips, he pulled her down on him as she moved, increasing
the level of joining and tactile contact. When he felt her let go, he
exploded himself, groaning out her name between gritted teeth. Intense.

Absolutely intense. There was no other word for this woman.

At the sound of her name, she opened her eyes and watched the
expression on his face.  He was gorgeous before… when he was smiling,
thinking, even angry.  But when he was like this… nothing in Heaven
or Earth could compare.

Catching his breath, Scott opened his eyes and looked through the
filter of his glasses at her. “You’re beautiful.” He told her huskily.

She let herself fall forward and land on his chest.  “That is very
similar to the thought I was just having about you.  This is more than
even I could have dreamed of.”  Kissing his chest, she teased, “Too bad
we can’t stay in bed for a week or so.”

“Sure we could.” He replied immediately. “We’ve got plenty of vacation
time at our disposal.”

Her head popped up, nearly missing his chin.  “Really?”  Then her eyes
grew a bit dim.  “But what about exams?  How would we explain it to the
professor?  He’ll never let us go during the school year.”

“We’ll be back for exams.” Scott told her with a grin. “And there’re
plenty of people around to cover our classes for us. It’s only a week,
four days technically since it’s a long weekend.”

The smile came back to her face.  “Right?  A vacation?  You and I?”  It
was almost too good to be true.  But how would he react to the
questions that everyone would ask.  She looked at him again and smiled.
He wouldn’t care. Bottom line with him was he was with her, and he
wouldn’t give a fig what anyone else thought or said.  “When do we
leave?”

“Tomorrow.” He grinned. “If you want to.” It had been a spur of the
moment thing but he didn’t think there would be a problem, the
Professor had been telling him he needed to get away. He was just
taking his mentor’s advice.  And Lana certainly needed time away from
the school. The fact she would be with him… well that was a fringe
benefit for him.

“Tomorrow?”  She sighed.  “Good thing you got the bike tuned.”
Laughing, she continued, “Well almost tuned anyway.  And it sounds
perfect to me.  I want to be a little selfish with you anyway.  Always
wanted the chance and now that I have it, I’m not going to let it get
away.”

Scott’s grin widened and he rolled them over again, pressing her down
into the mattress. “Then we won’t let it get away. We’ll carpe the diem
first thing in the morning.”

She giggled.  “Carpe diem.  I like that.  And as I told the boys…
that has nothing to do with Fish of the Day.”  She had never thought
she could be this happy, but she was.  And the reason was right here in
her arms, where she believed he’d belonged his entire life.

“It doesn’t?” Scott did his best to look shocked. “Wow, you learn
something every day.” He grinned. “Wonder what I’ll learn tomorrow,”
Cuddling her close, he kissed her temple. “I suspect, whatever it is,
it’ll be well worth learning.” Well worth it indeed.
